Toes, tails & tiny trails

The new exhibition on amphibians and reptiles

from 30. April 2025
The herpetological collection of the Natural History Museum Vienna has been scientifically processed and maintained since 1806. It includes specimens of the two vertebrate classes amphibians and reptiles, some of which are over 200 years old, many of them from tropical and subtropical habitats.

The herpetological display halls 27 and 28 of the Natural History Museum Vienna are currently undergoing extensive refurbishment, showcases are being modernised and informative texts are being added. New lighting is used to optimise the presentation of over 1,000 alcohol and stuffed specimens, some of which are historical. These measures are laying the foundations for the coming decades and further refurbishments of the zoological display rooms.
